"Channel Islands Live" is an exciting project made possible through a cooperative agreement between the Ventura County Office of Education and the Channel Islands National Park . This partnership leverages the excitement of learning and the power of technology to bring one of Californians most unique national parks closer to you without you having to get your feet wet!

Because of its relatively remote location, Channel Islands National Park (CINP) is an unusual site in that only about one-third of park visitors ever get out to the islands. Using microwave and wireless technology, project partners are able to bring real-time video from the islands to the mainland. To date, we have been successful in bringing the Anacapa Island Underwater Dive program to CINP headquarters. We are currently working on being able to deliver the Underwater Dive program live, directly to local area schools.

An essential component of this project involves creating educational opportunities for students and teachers to explore this diverse marine environments through an integrated learning experience that is supported by standards-based, interactive curriculum, active participation in monitoring and gathering data on the local environment and live interaction with researchers working in and around Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary.

Additional project partners include the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary , the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of California at Santa Barbara's Marine Science Institute.
